Children in Harrisburg, Virginia are being targeted… Only Lieutenant Mike Kaleta can stop him striking again! It was Kaleta’s wife who wanted them to move from New York to Harrisburg, a medium-sized city in Virginia. Now she’s his ex-wife. Her loathing of him is only equalled by that of her father – who just happens to be the mayor. The chief of police, who hates college boys on principle, is not his biggest fan, either - all of which makes it harder for him to track down the monster who has so far attacked five little children. The attacks are sparking outrage and fear among the city’s parents and politicians alike. And worse is yet to come, because the deeper Kaleta and his partner, Sergeant Carrie Williams, get into the investigation, the more it seems to him that there are people – powerful people – who will do all they can to make sure he does not succeed… Can the determined pair really discover the truth? Violation has twists and turns that take the reader in chilling and surprising directions.
Praise for Sally Spencer
‘The characters are rich and complex, the plot is unusual and inventive, but it's the delightfully droll, wonderfully witty doses of humour that make the novel such a pleasure’ - Booklist “Characters are diverse, intriguing, and believable . . . plots never fail to surprise; and the procedural details are grittily realistic” - Kirkus Reviews “Spencer's finest hour a tightly plotted puzzler with surprises at every turn”- Kirkus Reviews Sally Spencer worked as a teacher both in England and Iran - where she witnessed the fall of the Shah. She now writes full time.Violation Sally Spencer Books
First of all, Thanks to Netgalley and Endeavour Press for me obtaining this book.Secondly, I have read 27 of Alan Rustage's (Sally Spencer) books and obviously I think them to be worthwhile mysteries, BUT personally having been an Investigator for 40 years (now retired) - I am a "stickler" for details. An American detective, Mike Kaleta, would not carry a "torch" (flashlight); he would not "ring up" someone on the telephone (he would call them on the phone); and in the USA it is not a "retirement scheme", but a Retirement Plan! The word scheme has somewhat of a negative aspect to most of us.
Other than that, keep going with the stories Sally (er, Alan....)!

Violation Sally Spencer Books Reviews
So well written, while I suspected the guilty, nothing really came together for me until the fast paced, dramatic end.
Five young children have been attacked and left to be found. They've all been molested, some beaten first, one with a broken arm.
It's up to Lieutenant Mile Kaleta and his partner Sergeant Carrie Williams to find the human monster responsible. It's like swimming upstream. The Chief of Police is a racist and a bigot...he doesn't like Kaleta because his father in law is the mayor, the position that the Chief wants. Williams is a woman and the Chief has no use for women who wear the uniform.
But then they get a lead... an anonymous note giving them a name of the suspected perpetrator. The young man is arrested, but Kaleta and Williams have their doubts this is the man responsible, even though there is direct evidence in his room.
The more they dig for further evidence, the more they find there are rich, powerful people involved ... and they want the cast closed pronto.
Kaleta and Williams find themselves the hunter .... by both sides of the law. They have one option .... run for their lives.
This is such an exciting crime thriller. The characters are flawless in their descriptions. The story line is solid. Action and suspense abounds from page one to the very end. Highly recommend to anyone who likes crime thrillers.
Many thanks to the author / Endeavour Press / Netgalley for the digital copy of VIOLATION. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Endeavour Press for giving me the opportunity to read this which I voluntarily reviewed.
This is the first book I've read by this author but it certainly won't be the last. Looking at his back catalogue I have plenty to choose from.
The characters are diverse in age and personality. I immediately like Lieutenant Kaleta and immediately disliked the Chief of Police. To me it's a sign of a good author when I can connect, or not, with the characters.
There are plenty of twists and turns that kept me engaged in the plot as it unravelled.
I would definitely recommend it.
3 and 1 / 2 stars
Young children are being sexually abused and left in place. The Chief insists on interviewing the first young girl in his usual ham fisted and rude manner. She is terrified.
After the second attack, Lieutenant Kaleta is paired with Caroline Williams because the Chief wants them both dismissed from the force. They are frustrated and worn out from their investigation. The attacks keep occurring.
On the basis of an anonymous letter, they arrest someone. Kaleta doesn’t feel right about it. He and Williams keep investigating the case even though their suspect has been run through the system. What they uncover is a heinous cover up involving the rich and powerful.
This is a well written and plotted book that is unusual in that it takes some surprising twists. This is my first Sally Spencer book and I will look into more of her novels.
I want to thank Netgalley and Endeavour Press for forwarding me a copy of Ms. Spencer’s book.
Great story and characters. Don't have any idea where the next book will go, but look forward to it.
A combination cop procedural plus a mystery story with interesting characters, a bit of romance, which I found to be well written and absorbing.
